We will celebrate the end of the Christmas festal cycle. This is the day when the Holy Family present themselves in the Temple to complete the ritual purification of a mother after childbirth and to redeem the first born son who is God incarnate.
Come and receive a blessed candle(s) which has symbolic meaning ascribed to them. The candle is seen as a symbol of Christ himself. The pure wax is understood to represent his human body, while the flaming wick represents his divinity. Candles blessed this day are taken home and lit in times of danger such as tornadoes or floods. Someone facing a personal crisis or difficult decision might light the Candlemas candle while thinking and praying through his/her situation.
