Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position.  These duties are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Develop, implement, and manage the County's Fleet Maintenance and associated parts inventory program.
  • Supervise Fleet Maintenance staff.
  • Repair and maintain County vehicles as needed.
  • Coordinate and schedule the repair and maintenance of County vehicles and equipment.
  • Assist with the management of the Public Works Capital Equipment Program budget and replacement schedule.
  • Research and development of new equipment specifications.
  • Develop and implement training programs for Public Works mechanics.
  • Evaluate performance and conduct performance appraisals for Public Works mechanics.
  • Conduct and document inspections of shop equipment and work areas.
  • Complete other duties as assigned or required.
  • Develop and maintain respectful and cooperative working relationships.
  • Regular and reliable attendance according to the department's work schedule.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Current diagnostic tools/programs
Vehicle systems training
First Aid/AED/CPR training every 2 years
Forklift training every 2 years
Bucket truck training
Ability to work with and supervise others
Ability to develop, write, and manage policy and procedures for the fleet maintenance personnel
Ability to demonstrate repair procedures and techniques
Perform personnel activities such as hiring, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions

 

Minimum Qualifications

An individual must meet the minimum qualifications as stated below to qualify for this position.

  • Associate degree in Automotive/Diesel Service Technician.
  • 6+ years of automotive, truck, and heavy equipment service, repair and operation.
  • Experience with diagnostic programs, parts inventory.
  • Minnesota Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brakes.
  • MN DOT Commercial Vehicle Inspector certification.
  • Certification and Training in Air Conditioning.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Welding and metal fabrication experience preferred.
