Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position assists as the primary land research position for Public Works projects and assists other departments interpreting land descriptions and documents.
This position functions as the primary contact for Surveyors, Title Examiners, Attorneys and Land Owners concerning property issues.
This position assists with review of Plats, Registered Land Surveys & Common Interest Communities for compliance with MN Statutes and County Ordinances.
This position is responsible for the research and preparation of Highway Right of Way Plats.
Update and maintain digital County Parcel Mapping using Computer Aided Drafting software.
Provide professional assistance to the general public and Cities & Townships with land surveying requests related to property abstracting, Right of Way and property subdivision questions.
Develop and maintain respectful and cooperative working relationships. Regular and reliable attendance according to the department's work schedule.
Two-year technical school education in Land Surveying, Engineering or relevant field, and a minimum of three years full-time relevant work experience is required in survey research, abstracting, or related work.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Desired knowledge and abilities include:
Understanding and interpreting legal descriptions and land interest documents.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain complex land title problems and how they originated.
Knowledge of State Statutes, boundary law principles, and MN Title Standards related to property interests.
Review title commitments for subdivision platting. This requires fluency at reading and interpreting land descriptions and the understanding of documents pertaining to title interests.
Mathematical, analytical ability and data management ability, very detail oriented with good organizational skills and initiative are required.
