What You Will Do:
The hands on Controller has the primary duty of executing all Accounting activities and ensuring that the financial transactions are accurate and timely and recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This role works closely with key functional leaders providing financial input and guiding fact based decision-making. You will utilize systems, processes and people to create efficiencies in the accounting team and transactions.
This exempt position reports to the CFO and will be a hybrid role with approximately 2 days a week onsite in Elk River, Minnesota.
Responsibilities:

Manage day-to-day accounting activities in a fast-paced environment

Record recurring and non-standard journal entries to ensure accurate accounting

Ensure general ledger account balances are reconciled including Cash, A/R, Inventory, Fixed Assets, A/P, Payroll liabilities, Customer trade liabilities and Accrued Expenses

Execute the month end close process and prepare the financial reporting package including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow

Analyze the monthly financial results based on trends and as compared to the budget/forecast. Explain and investigate any major discrepancies, and understand key business drivers

Work closely with key functional leaders to provide actual results and identify forecast updates

Complete bi-weekly payroll processing for exempt and non-exempt employees including employee benefit withholdings, garnishments, etc.

Understands standard cost accounting in manufacturing, including working knowledge of the bill of materials and the related raw material components, labor and overhead cost pool.

Manages the standard cost revaluation process and related ERP transactions. Analyzes production variances in collaboration with the Operations Team to identify gross margin enhancement opportunities.

Provide oversight to Accounts Payable function including vendor set-up, vendor bills and automated payment processing

Provide oversight to Accounts Receivable function including customer set-up, customer payment deductions and cash application

Strong working knowledge of ERP and GL transaction types and related accounting impacts to assist in issue resolution within Accounting and across the operations of the business

Reconcile banking transactions for accuracy and completeness as well as overall cash flow management

Maintain owned fixed asset and leased assets records and record related accounting transactions including additions, disposals, interest and depreciation/amortization.

Provide business partners financial information and analysis so that they can make accurate decisions; is timely with information to keep pace with important and urgent considerations and decisions

Assist in maintaining the input driven operation and financial models which drive the annual budget and quarterly forecast process

Identify and design metrics related to the Accounting function to drive operational excellence and drive strategic priorities

Develop and implement improvements to accounting procedures or financial processes as required by business growth and to improve accuracy or efficiency

Super-user of ERP system and other related financial systems/tools and provides training to other users within the organization

Drive continuous improvements across all ERP transactions and related accounting and financial reporting and analysis processes

Effectively influence colleagues by supporting them, challenging them, providing unique perspective and delivering value

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA and MBA preferred.

7+ years accounting and financial analysis in a manufacturing environment.

ERP system experience - Oracle NetSuite ERP system experience strongly preferred.

Solves difficult problems with efficient solutions by looking beyond the obvious and doesn’t stop at the first answers.

Hands on experience in ERP systems (Oracle Netsuite or similar) and advanced knowledge in Excel

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment that is fast paced and demanding, and demonstrated ability to influence up, down, and across in cross-functional situations.
