Membership Development Coordinator

The Chamber is currently seeking a talented and energetic individual to join our team as a Membership Development Coordinator who will be responsible for helping our members make the most of their memberships and ensuring that they have access to all the resources they need to thrive.

Reports to:  Executive Director
Non-exempt Full-Time
 
Position Purpose:  To support growth for the chamber, it's programs and member benefits while building strong retention through communications, programs and training. Ensure the chamber records maintain accurate data and accounts receivable.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
 
Recruitment & Retention
  • Maintain a prospective member list and actively acquire prospective member contacts. 
  • Develop and execute the chamber’s membership retention program.
  • Scheduling sales-related appointments for Executive Director to meet face to face with members and prospects
  • Participate in networking opportunities to solicit prospects for the chamber
 New Member On-Boarding
  • Liaison to Chamber Ambassadors committee, including scheduling new member visits, ribbon cuttings, maintaining active list of which businesses need visits and recruiting new Ambassadors
  • Process new member applications including invoicing new accounts and following up with online inquiries
  • Meet with new members to help them understand the benefits available and encourage use of specific benefits based on member’s goals and needs. Lead orientation program
 Administration
  • Prepare and send out monthly invoices for chamber dues.
  • Collect unpaid membership dues through telephone calls, personal visits, etc. as appropriate.
  • Coordinate accurate member data and chamber content for the Elk River Community Guide & Membership Directory project with outside publisher.
  • Maintain office equipment, software licenses, computers, copier, and outsource repairs as needed, within budget.
  • Update website as needed
  • Prepare monthly membership reports for board of directors
  • Answering the telephone and greet visitors to the chamber.
Member Programs & Events:
  • Provide support to volunteer committees that deliver two major fundraising events annually.
  • Coordinate additional membership events that celebrate, educate, and promote members.
  • Coordinate and support networking events
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  1. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with chamber members, staff, outside organizations and agencies, and the general public.
  2. Ability to support and motivate volunteers
  3. Ability to deliver exceptional customer service to members and not-yet members alike.
  4. Ability to manage multiple projects, communicate status of projects and meet deadlines.
  5. Ability to work independently, determine priorities and make appropriate decisions.
  6. Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  7. Flexibility and ability to work under changing priorities and workloads.
  8. Working knowledge of QuickBooks, Microsoft Office 365 and database software programs.
  9. Ability to handle confidential information in a trustworthy and respectable manner.
  10. Ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing and on the telephone.
 
Qualifications:
  • Professional presence and strong interpersonal skills are a requirement.
  • Degree or 4+ years’ experience in business, marketing, public relations, or related field is required
  • Experience with not-for-profit organization, chamber, trade association, or membership organization preferred.
  • Event and project management experience a plus
  • The position requires the ability to navigate stairways and the physical stamina to lift and carry 25 pounds.
  • Moderate to heavy computer usage is required
  • Ability to occasionally attend early morning, late afternoon or evening meetings based on business needs.
  • Some local travel to member business sites is expected. Driver’s license required.
  • A funny bone is helpful
