Volunteers are the Heroes Who Create Extraordinary Communities
Celebrating National Volunteer Month with Gratitude and Opportunity
April is National Volunteer Month, and here at the Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce, we see every day how volunteers are the true heroes behind thriving communities. They don’t show up for recognition—they show up because they care. Time is an irreplaceable gift, and our volunteers give it freely, fueled by passion and purpose.
Just showing up makes a world of difference. Our volunteers bring a variety of experiences, skills, and energy that help us be the best business organization for the Elk River Area. Whether it’s helping with a fundraiser, serving on a committee, or guiding strategy as a board member, their impact is huge.
And here’s a bonus—volunteering isn’t just good for the organization. It’s good for you. Research shows that volunteering improves mental health, reduces stress, builds confidence, and boosts your sense of accomplishment. It connects you with others and gives your time greater meaning.
We recently hosted our Groovy Gala, where volunteers helped dream up the theme and create the fun. One committee chair told us it was the most fun she’s ever had at an event—and she loves supporting the chamber while helping us raise money!
There are many ways to get involved with the chamber:
-
Lead a networking group
-
Join the Ambassadors
-
Help with the Golf Tournament on June 26
-
Serve on the board of directors
-
Join our new Membership Committee launching this summer
-
Help with a one-time summer landscaping project at the chamber
Beyond the chamber, there are dozens of local nonprofits in need of volunteers. Each has a volunteer board and many roles to fill. Check out our list of member nonprofits here, and explore more opportunities through the United Way’s Volunteer Hub.
However you choose to give your time, know this: you’re not just helping an organization—you’re helping build an extraordinary community. And we’re grateful for you.
