Description
Join us for Winterfest - a FREE family event offering outdoor activities that celebrate winter and focus on how both wildlife and people thrive in Minnesota’s months of snow and cold temperatures.
DRESS WARM for outdoor activities which include a horse-drawn sleigh side, snowshoeing, scavenger hunt and bonfire. Visit exhibits on wildlife adaptations for cold and winter survival, tracking, bird feeding and the Minnesota Junior Duck Stamp Program. Live owls will be on display and educators from the Audubon Center of the Northwoods will answer your questions about these unique birds.
Hot chocolate, cider, coffee and cookies will be available for purchase all day in the Main Tent and a brat and hot dog lunch will be served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Eagle’s Nest Nature Store, operated by the Friends of Sherburne, will have clothing, hats, books, jewelry, and kid’s items, as well as refuge patches and pins. They will also hold a silent auction fund-raiser with many unique items, to help support refuge projects and programs.
Winterfest celebrates the 110th Anniversary of the National Wildlife Refuge System. Sherburne is one of over 500 national wildlife refuges that span 150 million acres across the United States and its territories. Participants can enjoy a free piece of anniversary cake to be served at 12:30 p.m.
