Join our professional team of Mental Health staff in the Therapeutic Services Unit of Sherburne County Health & Human Services!

 
Provide mental health services and therapeutic supports. Under supervision and within State, Federal, and County audits and facility/program requirements; develop programs and policies, identify client needs, funding sources, create and develop a service plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate the service plan. This position is responsible for providing mental health services to prevent, diagnose, and treat mental, behavioral and emotional disorders in individuals, families and groups. Duties include conducting individual, family and group counseling and psychotherapy to children and adults; consulting with human service professionals; conducting observations; preparing written reports and making recommendations. The delivery of clinical services may occur in the home of the person receiving services, in the office, the county jail, or in alternate locations.

This position is located at the Government Center in Elk River, MN. Our regular business hours are Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm, though the department provides staff with flexibility in effort to strive for a desired work/life balance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

These examples of typical duties do not include all possible tasks for this classification and do not limit the assignment of related tasks.  Regular attendance according to the department's approved work schedule is required for all Sherburne County positions.
 

  • Provide crisis support when appropriate.
  • Respond to issues/problems that arise using appropriate intervention techniques.
  • Provide counseling of individuals served and/or their family on a direct basis.
  • Seek and provide consultation with other professionals as needed.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Participate in agency unit and general staff meetings.
  • Disseminate information learned at trainings/meetings and share resources.
  • Work cooperatively and respectfully with coworkers and management to create solutions.
  • Develop and maintain respectful and cooperative working relationships.
  • Provide training and resources to community groups and individuals.
  • Seek out and attend training as it relates to appropriate target populations.
  • Seek out opportunities to serve on committees requiring agency participation.
  • Promote harmony within the workplace.
  • Provide coverage.
  • Ensure case plans and case notes remain updated.
  • Responsible for performing diagnostic assessments to determine inmates' level of mental health functioning and evaluating the presence of mental health or substance abuse disorders.
  • Develop treatment or crisis plans, case noting and maintaining appropriate documentation, and communicating with other criminal justice, human services, or mental health professionals on inmates' cases.
  • Schedule and conduct individual and/or group counseling sessions, provides direction in setting short/long-term goals and objectives, and prepare inmates for re-entry back to general population.
  • Provide medical and mental health release planning, social work assessments and evaluation, treatment activities, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions to individuals and groups.
  • Participate in interagency staff conferences for the purpose of overall program planning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

EducationMaster’s degree or higher social work, or related field. Preferred degree in a mental health professional related field. 

Licensure: Licensure required or must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
Valid and current Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) license or meet the requirements of a qualified Mental Health Professional in MN Statutes 245.462, Subd. 18.
 
The following licensures would be accepted as they can do diagnostic assessments as well as psychotherapy – both individual and groups.  

  • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Licensed Psychologist (LP)
  • Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
Experience:  A minimum of three - five years of social work experience or experience in a closely related field or equivalent education plus work experience.
Preferred experience:
  • Working in a correctional setting or with justice-involved individuals
  • Writing Diagnostic Assessments and providing counseling
Must be able to make psychosocial assessments and develop and implement care plans and provide after-hours service, as needed.

2024 Hiring Salary Range
 $39.21 - $47.06/hour
 
Hours of Work
The schedule for these positions may require evenings, weekends, and/or an alternating schedule.

Position Availability: Positions would not be eligible to start prior to 1/6/2025. Also, is dependent upon final Board approval.

InterviewsSelected candidates will be notified via email October 31st or November 1st to self-schedule 10 minute phone interviews to be held November 5th. 

Physical Requirements: 
Must be able to endure extended travel, up to 8 hours or more per day. Must be able to provide own means of transportation when county vehicles are not available. May be required to travel to remote areas and in all weather conditions.
Must be able to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of kneeling, crouching, and which may involve some intermittent lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (10-50+ pounds).
 
Typical Working Environment:
80% Inside Work (office and field work), 20% Travel. (These percentages are an estimate and may vary based on job duties.)
Work is performed both in the office and in the field (some examples of settings include client’s: homes, apartments, hospitals, group homes, schools, shelters, correctional facilities, and treatment facilities). Headaches, eyestrain, and other related occupational hazards reflect the most common potential for injury in the office.  Field visits to clients’ homes may expose employee to unsanitary conditions, communicable illnesses, infrequent exposure to health hazards, unpredictable and/or unsafe environments.
Work is performed in the Sherburne County office and community. Periodic travel may be required for training purposes.  Headaches, eyestrain, and other related occupational hazards reflect the most common potential for injury in the office.  Staff may expose employee to communicable illnesses, infrequent exposure to health hazards, unpredictable and/or unsafe environments.

Likelihood of verbal abuse and threats from hostile, frustrated clients and may include unpredictable situations.
