Civil Engineer (EIT) – Land Development (Retail & Commercial)

Posted: 04/16/2026

See your work go from concept to construction—often within your first year.

At Landform, you won’t be siloed into one narrow task. You’ll work alongside planners, land surveyors,  landscape architects, and senior engineers in a studio-based environment—contributing to real retail and commercial land developments from concept through construction.

Simply put, you design projects that actually get built - not just drawings that sit on a screen.

We’re looking for a Civil Engineer (EIT or 0–3 years of experience) who wants hands-on experience, meaningful responsibility, and a faster path to growth in land development design.  This role is ideal for early-career civil engineers seeking hands-on experience in land development, site design, and commercial project delivery.

What you'll actually do:

  • Support retail and commercial land development projects from concept through construction
  • Assist in preparing site plans, grading, drainage, utility, and erosion control plans
  • Perform stormwater calculations and basic modeling
  • Contribute to plan production using AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners (clients, municipalities, contractors)
  • Participate in site investigations, zoning research, and utility coordination
  • Take on increasing ownership of design components as your experience grows

What you'll gain:

  • Exposure to how projects move from idea → design → approval → construction
  • Accelerated experience that typically takes years to gain in more siloed firms
  • Direct collaboration with multiple disciplines in a studio-based environment
  • A clear path toward PE licensure and project leadership

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • 0–3 years of experience (internships included)
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD (Civil 3D preferred)
  • Basic understanding of site design, grading, and construction documentation
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Strong interest in land development, site design, or civil infrastructure

Preferred:

  • EIT certification or on track to obtain
  • Exposure to commercial site design or land development projects

Why Landform:

  • Studio-based collaboration across disciplines
  • Diverse and meaningful retail and commercial projects
  • You won’t be siloed—you’ll see how entire projects come together
  • Trusted by public and private clients for more than 30 years across Minnesota and nationwide
  • Growth-focused culture with mentorship and advancement
  • Work on projects you can point to and say, ‘I helped build that.'
  • Hybrid flexibility and modern work environment
  • 30+ year firm with a forward-thinking approach

What you can expect:

  • Health, dental, vision, life/disability
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Flexible time off (FTO)
  • Profit sharing
  • Professional development + licensure support
  • Hybrid work flexibility

At Landform, you can:

  • FORM YOUR PATH.  Together, we'll work to achieve your ideal career, including how your hard work will be rewarded.
  • FORM YOUR TEAM.  It's less about traditional hierarchy than collaborating toward the right solution.
  • FORM YOUR FUTURE.  Your immersive experiences prepare you with skills to take on your future – including a unique portfolio and proficiency in working with cutting-edge tools.

Successful candidates will gain practical experience across the full project lifecycle—from initial concept through construction.

If you’re ready to work on real-world projects, grow faster than the typical path, and be part of a collaborative, high-performing team—we should talk.
