Kaleidoscope Charter School Recognized for Achieving Milestone

September 27, 2024 (Otsego, Minn.) Kaleidoscope Charter School (KCS) was recognized for 20 years
of service at the Minnesota Association of Charter Schools (MACS) annual meeting on September 26.
The Milestone Award recognizes service in educating children.

In receiving the award, Kaleidoscope upholds MACS stated goals of advocating for fair and just
education policies for students in charter schools, supporting charter school innovation, and quality and
accountability to promote equitable opportunities and excellence in education for students, as well as
exhibiting the commitment to service learning, as promoted by the school’s authorizer, the Volunteers of
America (VOA).

The school has evolved since its inception in the fall of 2004 when it opened its doors to a small
number of primary school students. KCS has progressed from a collection of portable classrooms in the
parking lot of a local church to the purpose-built building it resides in today. In the spring of 2017, the
school graduated its first class of seniors. Through strong demand and growth, the school currently
serves 493 students in Kindergarten through 12th grade.

KCS Executive Director Brad Sellner shared his appreciation for all who made this milestone possible.
“Our staff is dedicated to helping students reach their full potential. We’ve been fortunate to have
educators who bring energy and excitement to their classrooms.” Sellner also recognized the role of
parents in student success. “Our parents are actively engaged in their children’s education and show up
in classrooms and special events to show their support of their students and our school.”
The school focuses on individual student learning needs and is known by parents and staff for its small
class sizes and its family-like atmosphere. School enrollment is based on a lottery on the first business
day of February for the following school year.

With two decades of service behind them, the staff at KCS are focused on year 21 and beyond. “We
like to say that Kaleidoscope Charter School is where education and imagination come into focus, and
we look forward to where our focus will take us in the coming 20 years.” KCS Board Chair, Jason
Banick, noted.
