Spotlight on Opioids and Overdose Event Oct. 4
Come and see how Anoka County is responding to the opioid epidemic at a free event 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 at Spring Lake Park High School, 1100 81st Ave. NE, Spring Lake Park.
This event aims to raise awareness about overdose prevention and provide support for individuals and families who are or may be affected by substance misuse.
Hosted by the Anoka County Opioid Solutions Initiative (ACOSI), the day will be filled with insightful education, discussions, and informative presentations by experts on opioids, fentanyl, and the potential hidden dangers in your medicine cabinet. A Naloxone Education Station will offer free Naloxone, which is used to treat opioid overdoses, and training will be available throughout the day. A panel of people with opioid related experiences will share their stories of addiction, loss, recovery, and hope. Over 40 community health care, treatment, and recovery related resource tables will also be present. Free pizza will be provided.
“This free event is a vital opportunity for our community to come together, learn, and take action,” said District 7 Anoka County Commissioner Mandy Meisner, who serves as the lead commissioner on the county’s Human Services Committee of the Whole. “Opioid misuse and overdose have touched too many lives in Anoka County. By offering education, resources, and support, we’re empowering residents to be part of the solution. Together, we can save lives and build a healthier, more connected community.”
ACOSI has been established to respond to the misuse of opioids in Anoka County. Its mission is to improve health, save lives, and reduce the impact caused by opioids and other substances in Anoka County by managing opioid settlement funding and supporting strategic partnerships.
