Co-Responder, Health & Human Services

This position will provide mental health services and therapeutic supports. Under supervision and within State, Federal, and County audits and facility/program requirements; develop programs and policies, identify client needs, funding sources, create and develop a service plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate the service plan.  This position is responsible for providing mental health services to prevent, diagnose, and treat mental, behavioral and emotional disorders in individuals, families and groups. Duties include conducting individual, family and group counseling and psychotherapy to children and adults; consulting with human service professionals; conducting observations; preparing written reports and making recommendations. The delivery of clinical services may occur in the home of the person receiving services, in county jail, or in alternative locations. These positions will provide mental health services to both county and federal jail inmates at the Sherburne County Jail. Job duties also include assessing inmates for risk of harm to self to determine the appropriate level of supervision; developing crisis intervention/planning, referral to needed services, and treatment planning.

This position is located at the Government Center in Elk River, MN. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These examples of typical duties do not include all possible tasks for this classification and do not limit the assignment of related tasks.  Regular attendance according to the department's approved work schedule is required for all Sherburne County positions.

  •  Respond to behavioral health related calls with law enforcement and provide behavioral health evaluations, problem identification, crisis interventions, crisis treatment/care plans, and make referrals.
  • Provide follow-up, as needed, to individuals served via phone calls, messages, and on-site visits, accompanied by law enforcement as needed.
  • Follow direction from partnering law enforcement officer/deputy regarding on-scene safety, security measures, and protocol.
  • Provide behavioral health consultation to officers/deputies while responding to mental health related calls.
  • Coordinate with mental health crisis response teams to ensure the needs of community providers are addressed in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Integrate within Sherburne County Health and Human Services to provide technical assistance and rapid response consultation on complex cases and access to appropriate services.  
  • Integrate with other system partners on the Mental Health Action Team such as law enforcement, providers, community corrections, jails, health systems, and others. 
Minimum Qualifications
Education:  Master’s degree or higher social work, or related field.

Experience: A minimum of three - five years of social work experience or experience in a closely related field or equivalent education plus work experience.
  • Ability to make complete diagnostic assessments and develop and implement treatment/crisis plans
Preferred experience working in a correctional setting or with justice-involved individuals.  

Licensure
  • Valid MN drivers license.
  • Valid and current Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) license or meet the requirements of a qualified Mental Health Professional in MN Statutes 245.462, Subd.18. Or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
The following licensures would be accepted as they can do diagnostic assessments as well as psychotherapy – both individual and groups.  
  • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Licensed Psychologist (LP)
  • Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)

2024 Hiring Salary Range
 $39.21 - $47.06/hour

Position Availability: Positions would not be eligible to start prior to 1/6/2025. Also, is dependent upon final Board approval.

Hours of Work
The schedule for this position will require evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements: 
Must be able to endure extended travel, up to 8 hours or more per day. Must be able to provide own means of transportation when county vehicles are not available. May be required to travel to remote areas and in all weather conditions.
Must be able to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of kneeling, crouching, and which may involve some intermittent lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (10-50+ pounds).
 
Typical Working Environment:
80% Inside Work (office and field work), 20% Travel. (These percentages are an estimate and may vary based on job duties.)
Work is performed both in the office and in the field (some examples of settings include client’s: homes, apartments, hospitals, group homes, schools, shelters, correctional facilities, and treatment facilities). Headaches, eyestrain, and other related occupational hazards reflect the most common potential for injury in the office.  Field visits to clients’ homes may expose employee to unsanitary conditions, communicable illnesses, infrequent exposure to health hazards, unpredictable and/or unsafe environments.

Work is performed in the Sherburne County office and community. Periodic travel may be required for training purposes. Headaches, eyestrain, and other related occupational hazards reflect the most common potential for injury in the office. Staff may expose employee to communicable illnesses, infrequent exposure to health hazards, unpredictable and/or unsafe environments.

Likelihood of verbal abuse and threats from hostile, frustrated clients and may include unpredictable situations.
